We stay in bed & breakfasts, hotels, motels and lodges on this trip. This trip is a scenic photographer’s dream. We bike or hike in Cedar Breaks National Monument, Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, The Vemillion Cliffs, Grand Canyon National Park and Zion National Park. This trip is filled with optional biking routes and hiking routes. We bike back and forth between the desert floor and mountains on several occasions.
Some of the scenic rivers we will cross on our bikes are the Virgin, Sevier and the Colorado. Some of the larger wildlife habitating this area are bison, deer, bear, elk, antelope, mountain lion, ringtail cat, eagle and prairie dog.
We will bike to the town of Kanab where more Western movies were filmed than anywhere except Hollywood. The area around Kanab has produced such great movies as Planet of the Apes, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Maverick, My Friend Flicka and several hundred more. Some of the television series which were shot here were Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger and Daniel Boone. Many of these movie sets are still open to the public at Frontier Village in Kanab.
One night our hotel overlooks beautiful Lake Powell and its surrounding red rock desert. One morning we will float the Colorado River for about 2-1/2 hours (no whitewater) and Noo Funteers will shuttle the bicycles to the boating takeout. The narrative by the river guide is both interesting and informative. Those of you not wanting to float the Colorado River may shuttle around to the boating takeout where we will join the boaters, eat lunch and then continue biking toward the Grand Canyon. The cost of this float trip is included in the cost of the trip. We will stay two nights at the less crowded North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The hiking and picture taking here are unbelievable.
The last national park on this trip is Zion National Park with its great hiking trails. You may also bike in this park without the worry of a carload of sightseers running you off the highway. With very few exceptions, tourists are not allowed to drive their cars in Zion National Park.
NOTE The 3 shortest biking days are as follows:
44 miles is the last day of the trip enabling you to finish the trip early if desired. For those of you wanting a longer cycling day there is a 47 mile van supported option which features one of the trip's most challenging climbs.
The 19 & 37 mile days cycling into the national parks allow you to have that afternoon and all the next day for biking and hiking options within the national parks.
