Join us as we bicycle through coniferous & deciduous forest,
deep river valleys, historic towns, and both the Ozark and Ouachita
mountain ranges in Northwest Arkansas. We visit Eureka Springs,
a town in which the entire business district is listed in the National
Historic Register. Our lodging for the night, Crescent Hotel, is
situated high atop West Mountain overlooking downtown Eureka Springs.
This hotel was built in 1886. The view from the hotel and its gardens
is breathtaking. While we are in the gardens, the awareness of the
archaic surroundings captivates us. We become even more enchanted
by the beauty of this hotel and its gardens.
This is a climber’s trip as we climb three of the higher mountains
in Arkansas. We spend one night in the new lodge on the summit of
Mt. Magazine and one night in the lodge atop Petit Jean Mountain.
Also, we will climb Mt. Nebo which is by far the steepest of the
mountains.
Some of the famous natural attractions on this trip are the Grand Canyon of Arkansas, Petit Jean State Park and Lodge, Mt. Magazine Highway, and Highway Seven which has the nickname of "Scenic Seven," and is touted by some to be the most scenic drive in the Eastern United States. We bicycle to the top of 2,753 ft. Mt. Magazine which is the highest point in Arkansas.
While in Petit Jean State Park Lodge we should have ample time to explore some of the trails and waterfalls of this beautiful area. We spend a night just outside the town of Jasper, known as the elk capital of Arkansas. In addition to elk, we may encounter deer, coyote, black bear, and bobcat.
Remember, most Midwestern cities are just a day's drive if you don't want to fly to your next vacation destination.
